Big ups to Miss Cali

So, the question is, was it fair to eliminate Miss California for her views on same-sex marriage? I would have to answer no.
The most controversial topic of today was asked by a homosexual judge, clearly meaning he had a bias in how he wanted the question answered. With it being a representative California answering, I guess he thought he would get the answer he wanted. Too bad for both people that he got one of those the voted yes on Prop 8 to answer the question and answer it truthful to herself.
Miss California does not believe in same-sex marriage. What is the big deal. She answered the question politely and honestly. She did not "gay bash" anyone or say anything incorrect. She explained herself and her stance. The most important aspect is that she stayed true to herself.
The point of this contest is to choose who best represents America through her answers, poise, talent, etc. Well, America did vote yes on prop 8, hence the reason for the riots and angry people who believe differently. So, in a sence, her answer represented the country.
Also, just the fact that she was willing to speak her mind to a homosexual judge, knowing that he probably believes in same-sex marriage. She did not let that stop her from voicing her values and traditions. She did not give into the pressure and just say what she knew he wanted to hear.
In the end, she was cut because of her answer. According to Perez Hilton, it was not her answer that eliminated her but the way she answered. I do not believe that. He wanted to hear what he wanted to hear. He did not hear that and he dropped her from the competition.
In my she's the real winner.

Students Protest Obama

I applaud people who stand up for what they believe. Whether it is two people or two hundred, if you stand up for your rights, that's all that matters. Especially when it comes to religious beliefs because people seem to like to knock people know for that the most.
Students at Notre Dame are protesting against President Barack Obama presenting the commencement address at their university. They are protesting because the stem cell research goes against the Catholic belief due to the aborted babies. Obama has allowed for stem cell research to be possible after all these years of Bush not allowing it. Since Notre Dame is a Catholic university based on Catholic principles, the students are opposed to what Obama is doing. Therefore, since his actions go against their beliefs, they are not supporting him coming to their school.
This is very inspirational. I am a Christian, so I also do not agree with stem cell research. Although, for the most part I am an Obama supporter, I do not his decision on stem cell research. I completely understand where they are coming from and why they are doing it.
As far as the rest of the nation goes, they might not understand. Most people do not understand why there is such a disagreement with abortion, let alone the research. Is it even proven that this research will help. How long will the research continue before we figure it out. How many fetuses will be used? To take advantage of a life that has no voice, seems so unfair. Everyone should have a right to live. It's not our choice to take that life.
The students at Notre Dame are brave for protesting a president that the nation seems to be in love with. More people, especially students should do that. Maybe La Verne could learn something. Although there is nothing like that on this campus to protest, there are other things that we could rise up and fight. Unfortunately, there is not enough fight in us as a whole to do anything about it. Let's stand up, unite and fight.

Say it, Say it

Well, tonight ended the weekend of vaginas. The Vagina Monologues were performed this weekend at school and I was a part of it. I was a dnacer and I had a monologue. It was pretty cool, though nerve racking. We practiced for months and Thursday was the BIG night. I screwed up royally. I missed an entire line and did not recover. I was so upset at myself. Thank goodness my partner recovered for me.
The next two nights were better. I was on point, but then my dancing was not. I would either be early or late. It felt awful But whatever, it's over.
I'm sad that it's over though. It was so much fun bonding with people and just being able to share this experience with others. It was amazing. But at the same time, I'm glad my nerves are over it all. I can now calm down and get more of my free time back :)

Sad part about being a PA

So I am a Program Assistant for the ELS students that live on campus. I love it because I get to meet new people from different countries, though most of them are from Asia, I am still able to learn different customs and traditions. They are some of the sweetest and most polite people ever. They are grateful for everything anyone does for them.
They come here to learn English. Some live on campus, which are the ones I am in charge of. They most complete 12 sessions, with each session lasting only one week. Some stay here for the entire 12 sessions and others only come for one or two. It sucks when they only stay for a couple of months because it is like I never had the chance to really get to know them. It makes me sad.
Next month, more of them will move out. And more will move in. I love to see more coming, but not leaving. Some of the ones I grew close to are leaving next week and I am not looking forward to it. A normal RA has the same residents for the entire year unless people move out or something, but that is usually only a couple of students. None of the students that lived here in September live here now. Most of them went back home.
I guess I will always have my memories. Hopefully I can work in housing over summer, because then I will still get to work with them. I just hope I can keep in contact with some of them.

LC in Chi-Town

Well, this weekend was a LONG LONG LONG weekend. I spent it at a Phi Sigma Sigma leadership retreat in Chicago. Most people would think, "Ooo a weekend in Chicago, how fun." Umm...no.
I had some fun hanging with my sisters and playing in the snow for the first time. We made snow angels and threw snow around. We could only stay outside for 5 minutes at a time, but we enjoyed what we could of it. Other than that, it was conference after conference those three days.
We had to learn how to improve on our leadership skills. It is important to learn, especially since we are all new at our positions. I learned a lot and met some really cool people.
We spent more than 12 hours each day in workshops and stuff. It was hard to stay awake. Especially since I was up at 8am Chicago time, but really 6am Cali time. That is not the business.
I hope I can share what I learned with the rest of my chapter and improve on my positions for the future.
Oh, and we had Chicago style pizza which is AMAZING!! I must learn to make.
